The Showrunner Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.
On the Overwhelming Fan Response
One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.
The Central Mystery: Will Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?
So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.
“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Alternatively, why mess with the classics?
“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
