The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-episode season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."

The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.

New Challenges for The Team

The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.

Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.

In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."

He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.

The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.

Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
