Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
